Pablo Iranzo has been experimenting with sounds since 2004 and really started to work with professionals in 2009 followed by professional vocal education and guitar training. Working with other people has always been very exciting and inspiring for the musician. His new single ‘Overdose’ is out soon and Pablo is certainly gearing up for new music. We decided to catch up with the musician to find out his past, present and what he aspires to in the near future.
What inspired you to get into music?
I guess it all started when I was a kid. I remember admiring different acts like Michael Jackson because what they did was so captivating. As the son of a diplomat, I can definitely say that I have been to many countries and I am thankful for that. When I was a teenager I discovered Marilyn Manson and that ultimately led to me buying a guitar and saying “I want to write songs.”
How would you describe your music?
My first two records kind of go together in two parts. I wanted to tell a story within little stories about growing up, trauma, loss, love… all that in my own dark rock pop style. I thought I was painting quite the dark images with the lyrics I wrote 5 years ago but today those lyrics seem to be more relevant to me than ever with how society is evolving.
What would you say is your recording and song writing style?
I often have to change my methods of how I write a song. I usually write the words and then the music, but sometimes music inspires me to see what I want to write before I begin writing. I do sing in a local band that has been rather quiet these last few years. With them it’s an entirely different thing. I hear the guitar and I start writing. Sometimes lyrics take weeks for me to write, but sometimes I write them in 5 minutes. Writing and recording everything alone, even just to get everything ready for producers can be tough sometimes. I have a vision in my head of how I want things to sound and if I can’t reach it with my talents on the guitar or any other instrument, I ask a producer for help. I usually work with 2-3 producers across the globe.
Where would you like to see your music career in 5 years time?
I hope that I will be either finishing my third album or starting my fourth. Generally, I am hoping to reach more people, listeners who feel what I feel during these times. Sometimes you read about injustice in the news and you find yourself wondering “how can this be real?” Writing songs and singing them isn’t only fun for me, but I enjoy the emotional connection with listeners who can identify themselves or see themselves in a song that I wrote. That always brings me a lot of pleasure. “I’ve had a bad day. Your song helped me through it.” Hearing something like that as feedback really ignites life into art for me.
